South Africa

South Africa is truly a country of astonishing diversity. From the arid bushlands of the Kruger National Park to the clash of 2 oceans at Cape Point. Lush jagged mountains and dramatic rifts are in contrast to rolling deserts with star-studded skies.

Undoubtably one of the African continents most astounding destinations offering visitors the chance to glimpse the ‘Big Five’ in one of the countries national parks or private game reserves. For families an added bonus is many of the reserves like Midikwe, Pilanesburg and Addo Elephant national park also lie within regions that are malaria free.

Aside for the traditional safari experiences, head to the coastal town of Hermanus, recognised by the WWF as one of the best whale watching destinations in the world where from June to November you can see hundreds of Southern Right Whales head to Walker Bay. Head out of Cape town to ‘Boulders Beach’ where you can see the famous African penguin colony that decided to make this bay their home in 1982. For the adrenaline junkies, head out to Mossel Bay and see if you have what it takes to dove into shark infested waters! This area is one of the most popular destinations for cage diving with Great White Sharks.

The natural beauty of South Africa extends beyond wildlife, one of the most picturesque cities in the world – Cape Town is sandwiched between the iconic flat-topped Table Mountain and the southern Atlantic Ocean. Explore the historic Victoria & Alfred waterfront, packed with fantastic boutiques and restaurant, head to the infamous Robben Island, a former prison complex or head inland the rolling vineyards of Franschhoek or Stellenbosch where some of South Africa’s best wine if produced.

To the east, just 2 hours from the city of Durban lies the spectacular Drakensburg mountain range, the highest in Southern Africa. A great escarpment of dramatic basalt buttresses that encompass a Wold Heritage site due to its unique range of plants and the largest collection of San rock painting found anywhere in Africa. Offering a variety of activities within the park including gentle guided walks, fly fishing, rock climbing, mountain biking trails, and hot air balloon flights. Whatever activity you choose you can be assured of glorious vistas!

The South Africa you see today showcases a unique blend of African, European and Asian influences. The country has risen from its tumultuous past and truly become the ‘Rainbow Nation’ embracing both its colonial and cultural heritage and is an eclectic showcase that bewitches visitors from all over the world.
